Lights, Camera, Pretoria: Lucasida Calls for Aspiring Actors to Audition

Pretoria, South Africa – A fresh opportunity has emerged for aspiring and seasoned actors alike in the heart of Gauteng, as Lucasida Entertainment announces an open casting call for an upcoming web series. The independent production house is actively seeking English-speaking talent from Pretoria and surrounding areas for what promises to be a compelling and dialogue-driven narrative set against the backdrop of middle-class family life.

A Platform for Local Talent

Lucasida Entertainment, known for championing grassroots storytelling and independent filmmaking, is taking a bold step in developing a new web series that showcases local talent and real-life scenarios that resonate with everyday South Africans. The casting call is directed at Pretoria-based actors, reinforcing the production’s commitment to sourcing and developing homegrown talent. Both trained thespians and aspiring actors are welcome to audition.

“This project is rooted in the essence of Pretoria,” said a representative from Lucasida Entertainment. “We want the characters to feel authentic, and that authenticity begins with casting individuals who understand the nuances of the setting and culture. This is a story about everyday people, and we want everyday people to help tell it.”

Character Breakdown and Requirements

The casting call is open to a wide range of age groups, ensuring diverse representation. The youth character roles are open to both males and females between the ages of 23 and 35. In addition to the youth roles, there are five specific mature or elderly character profiles being cast:

  • Grandmother: Age 50–70
  • Father: Age 45–60
  • Mother: Age 40–55
  • Father 2: Age 40–55
  • Mother 2: Age 40–55

Actors auditioning for these roles should be fluent in English and comfortable with dialogue-heavy performances. Comedy monologues are encouraged, although actors are welcome to perform any one-minute piece that showcases their range and capability.

Audition Process and Guidelines

Interested applicants are required to prepare and submit a self-tape audition. The monologue should be approximately one minute long and delivered in English, with a preference for comedic material. This requirement emphasizes the production’s focus on character depth, timing, and delivery—skills critical to the success of dialogue-rich content.

Self-tapes must be submitted by 24 May 2025, and actors are encouraged to submit early to ensure consideration. For those who prefer in-person auditions or are unable to submit a video, open auditions will be held on 21 May 2025, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 296 Francis Baard, Prime Towers (Office 502, House of Yours Truly & Co), directly opposite Tramshed.

“We are looking for people who can bring these characters to life with genuine emotion, subtlety, and presence,” the casting team noted. “This series isn’t about grand theatrics; it’s about small, meaningful moments that audiences can relate to.”

Production Timeline and Commitment

The shoot is scheduled to take place from 11 to 14 June 2025, and all selected cast members must be fully available during this period. Lucasida Entertainment emphasized that candidates must reside in or around Pretoria to facilitate ease of travel and scheduling. Given the short filming window and micro-budget nature of the project, flexibility and punctuality are crucial.

“This is a micro-budget independent production,” the casting call states plainly. “We’re working with limited resources but unlimited creativity. We ask for professionalism, reliability, and enthusiasm from our cast to help us bring this vision to life.”

A Nod to Independent Storytelling

The project represents a continued shift in South Africa’s entertainment landscape, where digital platforms and web-based storytelling are providing a viable alternative to mainstream television. Productions like this not only open doors for emerging actors but also help cultivate local voices in an industry that has often struggled with representation and accessibility.

Lucasida Entertainment’s approach reflects a broader trend of low-budget, high-concept productions that prioritize storytelling and performance over expensive sets and effects. These projects often resonate more deeply with audiences because they reflect real-life issues, cultural dynamics, and everyday struggles.

How to Submit

Applicants are encouraged to email their self-tapes to castcrewlucasida@gmail.com. Submissions should be accompanied by a short professional email introducing the actor, with the subject line including the character role being auditioned for. The body of the email should briefly describe the actor’s background, relevant experience, and any additional information that may support their application.

Aspiring actors should also ensure their submissions are neat, professionally filmed, and well-lit to improve their chances of selection. “First impressions matter,” the casting team advises. “Treat your self-tape as if it’s your audition room. Show us who you are and what you can bring to the story.”

A Chance to Shine

With growing interest in authentic, relatable web content, this series presents a valuable platform for Pretoria-based actors to showcase their talent on a broader stage. For those who’ve long waited for a chance to break into the industry—or to return to it with renewed purpose—this casting call may be the opportunity that sets them on a new path.

As Lucasida Entertainment prepares to begin this new journey, the company is inviting the city’s storytellers, performers, and dreamers to take the leap and become part of something special.
